Question

Office 365. The sitelog size is huge ( more than 3Gb for the day). It was discovered synchronization is abnormally frequent:

[root@log]# grep -c 'Trying to execute synchronization' sitelog20180129
18287

while we expect ~ 700 synchronization attempts per day. What is the reason of such synchronization frequency?

Answer

The reason of such frequent synchronization - time difference between customer local time and UTC. When this value if big enough (like, more than 8 hours), last_synchronization property is set incorrectly.

This behavior has been reported to Odin Development team as request #APSA-19525: "Office 365: "last_synchronization" property value is being saved in UTC and ignores local time - sync process causes huge sitelog size as a result."

Please contact pta@odin.com or TAM to trace the status of the issue.
