Symptoms

A VM disk cannot be resized in Customer Control Panel.

The observed error:

Please try to start the virtual machine and check the file system for errors. Or you can resize the hard disk without resizing the file system and then resize it using the tools of the guest operating

After the failure, VM switches to Starting state and becomes unmanageable, switching to UNCERTAIN after some time.


Cause

VM resize is not possible due to some reasons on Virtuozzo level.

Possible causes:

  • VM with MBR partition table is resized to more than 2 TB, which is forbidden
  • VM has a filesystem corruption

OACI acknowledges the failure and pays provider's attention to its state.


Resolution

Contact Virtuozzo Support for the detailed guidelines how to fix the affected VM.


Additional information

The failure could also be seen by invoking the backend Virtuozzo utilities, e.g.:

[root@vz ~]# prl_disk_tool resize --hdd /var/parallels/myvm.pvm/disk.hdd --size 2560000M --resize_partition
The disk could not be resized over allowed maximum size.
