Symptoms

When removing CAS server, a task fails with:

Queue name host_operations_39
Task name cleanup packages on host '<SERVERNAME>'
Task description Task that uninstall packages from host '<SERVERNAME>'
Queue status Failed
Method name cleanupHostPackages on SCREF:ppm:4
Last execution output Service #61 with name 'Exchange2007Protocols' controlled by service controller #54 is used on host '<SERVERNAME>'.

Cause

The possible cause for the issue is that the server you are trying to remove has services attached to it. Check Top > Deployment Director > Server Manager > Hardware Nodes > <SERVERNAME> > Customer services in POA.

Resolution

If you need to replace one physical CAS server <SERVERNAME> with another, say having name <SERVERNAME>-NEW, it could be done easily by following Deployment guide and performing these procedures:

  1. Add new server <SERVERNAME>-NEW to the existing <SERVERNAME> as a cluster using Windows NLB.
  2. After the same packages will be installed on the new server, all required changes will be also applied on that new server.
  3. Remove all Exchange packages from old server <SERVERNAME> and turn off NLB - so new server will handle all the requests as old server did.
