Symptoms

Before upgrade of PBA to 5.5 Providers may need updating their locale files.

  1. The update procedure is NOT REQUIRED, if:

    Provider has no customizations.

    Customizations were made in additional files like locale.en.custom (locale.de.custom, locale.ru.custom, locale.XX.*, ...).

  2. The update procedure is REQUIRED in case customizations were made directly in locale.en (locale.de, locale.ru, ...). Use the instructions in this KB to keep changes.

Cause

Changes in PBA 5.5 force usage of the separate locale files for the locale customizations. Default locale files will be overwritten during upgrade.

Limitations

In case a customer has PBA with version other than 5.4.15 installed, he should ask technical support to provide the proper EN locale file.

Resolution

PBA for Linux:

  1. Download original locale.XX files for PBA 5.4 for each customized locale, where XX is a 2-letter locale ID (i.e. “en”, “de”, “fr”, etc.). Files are available at http://download.pa.parallels.com/pba/5.4/
  2. Go to the directory where locales are installed:

    cd /usr/local/bm/conf/locale

  3. Run the script to separate custom rows from locale, replacing the XX with a 2-letter locale ID, i.e. “en”, “de”, “fr”, etc.:

    /usr/local/bm/tools/processLocale.pl diff %path_to_reference_locale.XX% locale.XX > locale.XX.custom

  4. The resulting file locale.XX.custom will be created.
  5. Review and adjust extracted customization rows in locale.XX.custom, if needed.
  6. The locale.XX will be overwritten during upgrade while customized locale keys will be kept in locale.XX.custom and will be applied to UI.
  7. Hereafter all customization changes must be applied to the locale.XX.custom file.

PBA for Windows:

  1. Download original locale.XX files for PBA 5.4 for each customized locale, where XX is a 2-letter locale ID (i.e. “en”, “de”, “fr”, etc.). Files are available at http://download.pa.parallels.com/pba/5.4/
  2. Go to the directory where locales are installed:

    cd C:\Program Files\Parallels\PBA\conf\locale

  3. Run the script to separate custom rows from locale, replacing the XX with a 2-letter locale ID, i.e. “en”, “de”, “fr”, etc.:

    "C:\Program Files\Parallels\PBA\perl\bin\perl.exe" "C:\Program Files\Parallels\PBA\tools\processLocale.pl" diff %path_to_reference_locale.XX% locale.XX > locale.XX.custom

  4. The resulting file locale.XX.custom will be created.
  5. Review and adjust extracted customization rows in locale.XX.custom, if needed.
  6. The locale.XX will be overwritten during upgrade, while customized locale keys will be kept in locale.XX.custom and will be applied to UI.
  7. Hereafter all customization changes must be applied to the locale.XX.custom file.
