Parallels H-Sphere apache 2.* based web server crashes with segmentation fault (and even core dumped) during start:

# /etc/init.d/httpd start

Starting httpd:

/etc/init.d/httpd: line 158: 4873 Segmentation fault (core dumped) $HTTPD $DSSL -f $HTTPD_CONF

The reason of the crash is:

#0 0x00d03ee7 in ssleay_rand_status () from /hsphere/shared/apache2/modules/

Cannot access memory at address 0x18

The problem is related to openssl bug:

that appears in OpenSSL versions before 0.9.7k and 0.9.8c.

To solve the problem OpenSSL should be updated to the version greater than 0.9.8c.

In case Parallels H-Sphere do not provide own SSL packages, customers should do the update or ask operating system vendor for corresponded support.
