Title Why are non-standard ports like 10xxx used for FTP?
Summary Why are non-standard ports like 10xxx used for FTP?
Standard FTP port is used for IP based sites. For name-based sites, two ports are provided; the standard 21 port and one non-standard port 1000x. Both ports can be used for FTP, but accessing FTP on the standard port will not generate site reports nor enforce connection timeouts.
Anonymous users of a name-based site can only use the non-standard port.
