Symptoms

Hotfix KB130545 introduced new set of Linux Mail Hosting packages for RHEL/CentOS 6. In scope of it, SpamAssassin package version was bumped to 1.24. After installation, this version of SpamAssassin puts its working files inside of / instead of /var/spamassassin/. The latter directory exists, but is not used.

Configuration file /usr/local/pem/bin/.pem/SpamAssassin/spamassassin.init contains blank value for parameter helper-home-dir instead of /var/spamassassin:

SPAMDOPTIONS_COMMON="--username=spamassassin --daemonize --helper-home-dir= --max-children 20 --nouser-config --virtual-config-dir=/%u/.spamassassin --listen-ip=192.168.31.18 --allowed-ips=`cat /etc/mail/spamassassin/allowed_ips` -l"

Cause

THe issue was recognized as POA-111508 and was passed to Odin Engineering Team for further investigation.

Resolution

The issue does not affect SpamAssassin functionality or performance: the software is working correctly and operating with configuration files from the right directories. However, currently there are no workaround for POA-111508.
