After an upgrade to OA 5.5 or later in case of a fresh IIS node deployment, the following web server error appears for an ASP page that contains accesing an .mdb database:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft]\[ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Disk or network error.
 /connection.asp, line 12

or simply:

Microsoft Access Database Engine error '80004005
Unspecified error

Starting from OA 5.5 permissions for standard folders on Windows Shared Hosting servers were tuned up (see KB114277 for more details). In particular, Read/Write permissions are now denied for DOMAIN/IISAnonUsers group on C:\Windows folder.

ODBC Microsoft Access Driver tries to create some files in the temporary directory C:\Windows\Temp under DOMAIN\i_SubscriptionID, which is a member of DOMAIN\IISAnonUsers.

Remove all DENY permissions for DOMAIN/IISAnonUsers on C:\Windows folder for a web server with such configuration. Execute the following command in command prompt, launched with administrative privileges:

icacls C:\Windows /remove:d DOMAIN\IISAnonUsers

Where DOMAIN is a placeholder for the actual provider's domain.
