Apache does not start: No such file or directory: could not create /etc/httpd/run/

    # less /var/log/httpd/error_log
    [error] (2)No such file or directory: could not create /etc/httpd/run/
    [error] httpd: could not log pid to file /etc/httpd/run/

Absent directory "/etc/httpd/run".

  1. Check if "/etc/httpd/run/" exists:

    [root@apacvhe]# ls -la /etc/httpd/run
    lrwxrwxrwx. 1 root root 19 Sep 14  2013 /etc/httpd/run -> ../../var/run/httpd
  2. Make sure that directory "/etc/httpd/run" exists. If it is absent on the server, create it manually:

    [root@apache]# mkdir /var/run/httpd
    [root@apache]# chown root:apache /var/run/httpd
    [root@apache]# chmod 710 /var/run/httpd
