How to upgrade Pem Agent on a Windows Service Node when a Parallels Plesk Automation (PPA) upgrade fails.


The PPA upgrade to 11.5 fails and Pem agent is updated on the Management Node to version 5.5. You can check this with the following command:

    # rpm -qa |grep pleskd

However, the Windows Service Node still has Pem Agent version 5.4. You can check this with the Pleskd.exe version in the C:\Program Files (x86)\SWsoft\PEM\bin folder.


  1. Back up this registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SWsoft\PEM

  2. Download PAgent.exe using the link below:

  1. Upgrade Pem Agent using the following command in the command line:

    PAgent.exe /c /qn /l c:\\pem.log REBOOT=Suppress AUTO_UPGRADE=1
  2. If Step 3 fails with this error:

    MSI (s) (E4:68) [07:14:57:469]: Invoking remote custom action. DLL: C:\Windows\Installer\MSIB7F9.tmp, Entrypoint: cleanupPOAConfig
    MSI (s) (E4!64) [07:14:57:628]: Product: POA Agent -- POA Error: Access is denied.
    : Failed to delete registry key
    CustomAction cleanupPOAConfig returned actual error code 1603 (note this may not be 100% accurate if translation happened inside sandbox)
    MSI (s) (E4:E4) [07:14:58:913]: User policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0
    MSI (s) (E4:E4) [07:14:58:913]: Machine policy value 'DisableRollback' is 0
    Action ended 07:14:58: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.

    Delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\SWsoft\PEM\hostname, where "hostname" is the hostname of the server. Then, try to perform Step 3 again.

  3. Check that the agent works correctly after the upgrade:

    netstat -ano | findstr 8352
    TCP              LISTENING       3044
