Symptoms

The POA Customer Control Panel displays the wrong link to the BackupAgent Management Console. The displayed link is

https:///ManagementConsole/Login.aspx

while it should look like

https://backupagent.provider.com/ManagementConsole/Login.aspx

where backupagent.provider.com is the hostname of a server where the BackupAgent Management Console is installed.

So, the problem is that link to the BackupAgent Management Console in POA Control Panel has empty target host.

Cause

The link to the BackupAgent Management Console is generated using the 'BA public url' parameter defined in the APP-META.xml file in the BackupAgent APS application, the parameter defines the URL of BackupAgent server, used for external communications.

The reason of the problem is that old versions of the BackupAgent APS applications had this parameter named as 'ba_public_host' in the APP-META.xml file, while starting from the BackupAgent 1.2.4 the parameter was renamed to 'ba_public_url'.

If POA has APS application instances in customers' subscription based on the BackupAgent versions before 1.2.4 and Provider imported the BackupAgent 1.2.4 or later then all instances using old version of the BackupAgent will be affected by the problem described in the article. During the importing of the new version of the BackupAgent application POA replaced old parameter 'ba_public_host' with the new one 'ba_public_url' in resource types in own database and as a result the links to the BackupAgent Management Console in Control Panel lost target host because the old parameter does not exist any longer in POA database.

Note: 1.2.11 version lacks the link altogether, please upgrade from this version as well.

Resolution

Upgrade all instances of the BackupAgent APS application to 1.2-16 or later.

  • Log into POA Provider Control Panel

  • Go to Service Director > Application Manager > Applications > BackupAgent

  • Click the 'Upgrade instances' button

  • Select Upgrade all instances or Upgrade by Service Template

  • Click Next and Finish

It is recommended to first check upgrade on some test application instance before proceeding with upgrade of live customers' services.
