When a subscription is switched from one Service Plan to another, PBA uses the following algorithm to calculate new resource limits:

  1. Any additional amount of the resource remains as an additional amount of the resource
  2. The included amount of the resource is updated to "Included Amount" in the new plan
  3. Resource prices are updated to prices from the new plan

See examples below.

Example #1

The customer has a subscription based on Service Plan A with five included mailboxes. The customer purchases two additional mailboxes, so now they have seven mailboxes.

The customer switches to Service Plan B with only two included mailboxes.

Result: The customer has a subscription based on Service Plan B with two included mailboxes, plus two additional mailboxes; the total amount of mailboxes in the customer's subscription after the plan switch is four.

In the case of a POA-based subscription, the plan switch may fail if the current resource usage in POA is higher than the new limit PBA tries to set.

Example #2

The customer has a subscription based on Service Plan A with five included mailboxes. The customer purchases two additional mailboxes, so now they have seven mailboxes.

The customer switches to Service Plan B with 50 included mailboxes.

Result: The customer has a subscription based on Service Plan B with 50 included mailboxes, plus two additional mailboxes; the total amount of mailboxes in the customer's subscription after the plan switch is 52.
