"Active Directory Synchronization Agent" service is a windows service from "Customer Directory Integration" product. It is installed in a customer's Active Directory and serves passwords changing notifications. It is running under a special user with the name "CDIPasswordAgent". In order to troubleshoot connectivity issues between "Active Directory Synchronization Agent" service and "Parallels AD Synchronization Web Service" which is installed on a provider's side it may be necessary to login under "CDIPasswordAgent" user and check an availability of "Parallels AD Synchronization Web Service" from this account. But usually a customer does not remember a password for this account. This article describes how to reset password for "CDIPasswordAgent" safely


  1. Login to host where "Customer Directory Integration" installed using an account with the privileges of domain administrator.
  2. Open "Services" MMC snap-in ("services.msc").
  3. Locate service "Active Directory Synchronization Agent" and stop it.
  4. Login to Domain Controller.
  5. Open "Active Directory Users and Computers" MMC snap-in ("dsa.msc").
  6. Locate "CDIPasswordAgent" user in "Users" container and perform right click to see the drop-down menu.
  7. In the drop-down menu select "Reset Password..." command and type a new password.
  8. Return to the host where "Customer Directory Integration" installed.
  9. In the opened "Services" MMC snap-in open properties of the selected "Active Directory Synchronization Agent" service.
  10. Go to "Log On" tab and and type the new password in fields "Password" and "Confirm Password" under the selected "This account" radio-button.
  11. Close windows using "OK" button.
  12. Start "Active Directory Synchronization Agent" service.
