Service Monitor shows many services in status 'Start failed' in OBAS PCC under Top > Configuration Director > Up2date Manager > Service Monitor, the list of services is as follows (it may be not complete):

  • ip6tables
  • cpuspeed
  • isdn
  • mdmonitor
  • acpid
  • rpcgssd

Are those services necessary for correct OBAS functioning?

How to remove services from the list of monitored ones if they are not critical for OBAS functioning?

All services listed above are not necessary for proper OBAS functioning.

The following Linux system services are critical for OBAS to work correctly:

  • crond
  • hspcd
  • httpd
  • local
  • mysql
  • network
  • pdns
  • pdns_recursor
  • saslauthd
  • sendmail
  • servicemon
  • sshd
  • syslog
  • taskmand
  • vzcoll
  • xinetd

All other Linux system services may be disabled and in this case they will not be monitored by OBAS Service Monitor.

Use the Linux system utility chkconfig to disable unnecessary services on the OBAS Management Node. E.g. use the following command to disable the isdn service:

chkconfig --level 123456 isdn off

After a service was disabled using the utility chkconfig log into OBAS PCC, go Top > Configuration Director > Up2date Manager > Service Monitor and click the button Check Now. Service Monitor will recognize that service is disabled and will exclude it from the list of services being monitored.
