Users are not able to connect using Office Communicator. Office Communicator displays the Cannot sign in because the server is temporarily unavailable. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator. error message.

The Office Communications Server Front-End service is not able to start on Front-End node(s) and there is the The Office Communications Server Front-End service terminated with service-specific error 3287185656 (0xC3EE78F8). error message in the Event Viewer.


 This problem may appear after the installation of Cumulative update for Office Communications Server 2007 R2: June, 2011.


The following packages must be installed on the OCS Front-end server(s) before installing the cumulative update. The packages should be installed in the following order:

1. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components (SQLServer2005_BC_x64.msi);
2. Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Objects Collection (SQLServer2005_XMO_x64.msi);
3. OCS2009-DBUpgrade.msi;

Note: The OCS2009-DBUpgrade.msi file should be launched from a command line and the OCS pool name should be specified as a parameter. Example: OCS2009-DBUpgrade.msi POOLNAME=poolname.
