What is watchdog and how to configure it?

Answer

OA Watchdog is a Linux or Windows service written in Perl that monitors the state of different services running in OA or under any other hosting platform. Its general purpose is to send notifications on problems either occurred in the system or that are about to occur. When a OA Watchdog administrator receives a notification, they are supposed to take measures to fix or prevent the problem manually basing on notification message and log attached to it.

OA Watchdog may monitor almost all managed services:

  • Web servers
  • FTP servers
  • Mail servers
  • DNS servers
  • Database servers
  • Odin Business Automation server
